Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #5

Welcome to October and a brand new Mixed Media Monthly Challenge! The projects you all are entering in the gallery have been absolutely stunning. I love that this challenge has introduced me to new talented people I wouldn't have met otherwise. Thank you for your continued support of this month-long challenge!

For October, we challenge you to create any type of mixed media project using ribbons, twines, or fibers! It's only fitting that our fabulous sponsor this month is the one and only MAY ARTS. One random entry will win a beautiful autumn collection of ribbon from May Arts,

I created a fairly messy canvas for my project this month. I used a large variety of May Arts ribbon and trims to create the texture of my canvas...

Ain't it beautiful?! This is just the first step :) I covered the canvas board with heavy gel medium and just piled on the ribbons, twines, and trims. Once the gel medium was completely dried, I covered it all with gesso. Once everything dried I was left with texture, texture, and texture galore!

I started with a layer of acrylic paint in purple, teal, and yellow. Here is the finished canvas board...

I told you it would be messy :)

I used little die cut haunted houses from Tim Holtz and painted them in similar colors. Each house cluster is resting on top of some May Arts gold trim to help separate them from the canvas (better in real life, I promise ha!).

There will be a lot of close-up photos today! The texture was such a main part of the project, so that's what I want to show off. The houses were die cut from Grunge Board, painted, and traced around with a white gel pen.

I thought this sentiment was perfect with all the houses and hearts that ended up on my canvas. Where there is love, there is no darkness. I stamped it in white acrylic paint, then also traced over it with a white gel pen.

I also covered the canvas with some white gel flakes by Liquitex and some crushed mica powder from Stampendous. I love the texture! You can see all the toole and ribbons really well in that photo above.

Thank you for joining me for my messy, textured, mixed media canvas! Let me know in the comments what kind of project you plan on making for this month's challenge!

Head on over to the Mixed Media Monthly Challenge blog for more inspiration from the team and details on how to enter!

I'm also entering in the current Paper Issues link up, which happens to also be sponsored by May Arts Ribbons (which I used a ton of in my canvas)!! :)
