Mickey's Halloweentown

As you probably know, I'm a big Disney fan (for better or worse) and frequently visit the Disneyland parks. Just next week, Disneyland is already starting their Halloween party, the Oogie Boogie Bash! I just had to make a Halloween themed Mickey card to celebrate all the new decorations that are popping up around the park.

I wanted to dress up Mickey and Minnie in their autumn best. Last year their outfits were purple and orange for the season, just like my card. And how amazing are these dies?! I used the new Say Cheese bundle for the Mickey and Minnie. I will certainly use this for upcoming scrapbook pages, too!

I created the pumpkin patch scene using dies from the Spellbinders July 2024 Small Die of the Month. I just used the pumpkins, the crow, the hat, and the sign from that set.

I was so so happy there was a crow in the set. If you've ever been to Disneyland, you know in the evening it is Crow-o-Clock and they takeover!

All of the cardstock used is from the new ColorWheel collection. I hope you've enjoyed my Halloween themed Mickey card!

Enjoy the Little Things - Simple Mixed Media Card

I have a fun mixed media card being shared over at the Hero Arts blog today and over here I'll be sharing the step by step to make it. Hero Arts products are a fantastic way to start dipping your toes into mixed media if you're new to it all. The card I'm sharing is actually quite simple, too! So, Beginners, you're in the right spot.

Over at Hero Arts today they are showcasing the Mixed Textures stamp set. This is one of Hero's extra large clear sets and can be used in so many ways. Here are the steps to create my card:

Die cut a tag with Tag Infinity Dies from Watercolor Paper. Then pick a couple of the texture stamps in the set and stamp in Intense Black Ink. The ink needs to dry completely to be waterproof, so I blasted the tag with a heat gun (safely) before moving forward.

Next, pick out a stencil! I used the beautiful Decorative Tile Pattern Stencil and spread some White Hero Paste on top. You can see that I did not fill the entire tag with the stencil and paste. I am a big fan of leaving some space blank to make it look more "random". Blast the tag again (safely!) with your heat gun!

With the Hero Paste dry, ink blend the edges of the tag with Summer Sky. I only blended the bottom edge, right side, and top edge. So I kind of followed the same pattern as the stencil. Then take your tag over to a splatter box and give it a few sprays of Bright Yellow + Copper Metallic Spray. Blast this baby with the heat gun again!

The Mixed Textures set has a lot of smaller images that should not be forgotten! I took any circle shaped stamp from the set and heat embossed them on watercolor paper with Black Detail embossing powder. Then take that back to your splatter box and spray first with Fuchsia + Gold Metallic Spray and then with Bright Yellow + Copper Spray. Any ink that mixes will just make a beautiful orange shade. Hit it with the heat gun to dry!

Thankfully, the Nesting Circle Infinity Die Set has soooooooo (so!) many sizes that I was able to die cut them all except for the stopwatch shape, which I just fussy cut. Add these in little groups to your tag with some liquid glue.

The sentiment is inked in Indigo and comes from the set Art Journal Messages. The two stamp sets used today definitely go perfectly together. If you own one, you need the other! I also sprayed the sentiment with Bright Yellow + Copper and then fussy cut each word.

Ok, it's basically the last step! Cut an A2 card panel from Windy cardstock and start stamping the edges with Dusty Blue. I used a mix of the larger stamps from the set and since it's mixed media, it doesn't matter if it overlaps a little. The center is unstamped because it's covered by the tag. I then did a small amount of splatter with the Fuchsia spray.

Glue the tag to the card panel and tada! You made a mixed media card!

Thanks for stopping by and I highly encourage you to dive into a little bit of mixed media fun :)

Coco Inspired Halloween Card

My Disney/Pixar loving heart is so excited to share today's card with you all! As you probably already know, the August Hero Studio kits really knocked it out of the Halloween park. The Dies of the Month are absolutely packed with great little images and frames. When I saw the skull die I immediately thought of sugar skulls and Coco.

The card design was highly inspired by this Coco poster I found:

And then I wanted to also used the same color scheme as the movie logo which includes a lot of bright yellows, reds, oranges, pinks, and blues.

The background is inked up the August Layering Stencils of the Month. The layers were ink blended in the following order: Nautical Ink, Indigo Ink, Charcoal Ink, and Plum Ink. This was on top of Adriatic Cardstock.

The three frames and their skulls were covered in Glitter Paste and popped up to give them emphasis. The rest of the card is just die cutting and gluing! The cardstocks used for the skulls are: Mustard, Papaya, Nautical, Peony, White, and Azalea.

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you enjoy this inspiration for the August Hero Studio Kits.

Long Line Leaves - Two Ways

Today I'm sharing a set of cards that share a lot of similarities but also big differences. I used the beautiful Long Line Leaves set from Kristina Werner. There are stamps, stencils, and dies to make this a complete set to create some elegant cards.

Both cards start with inking up the Long Line Leaves Background Stamp and embossing it with Brass Powder. I did this for both a white card panel and a black card panel.

For the black panel, I pulled out my trusty Arteza Acrylic Paints. I lightly painted the petals with Pearl Turquoise and Pearl Rose Quartz.

For the white panel, I used the coordinating Long Line Leaves Stencil Pack. Half of the leaves are ink blended with Lilac and the other half are blended with Lakefront ink.

Both cards have the sentiment anchored by some large stamped leaves. These leaves are from the Long Line Leaves Stamp Set. I stamped the solid leaves with Fig, Lilac, and Peacock. There is a coordinating die set that I used to cut out the leaves.

The sentiment on the black panel (from the Long Line Leaves Dies set) says "just wanted to say hello and that I'm thinking of you". This was the perfect sentiment as I created this card to send to a family friend whos beloved cat recently passed away. The sentiment was cut from Pitch Black cardstock and matted with Champagne Foil Cardstock.

The sentiment for the white card says 'thanks so much' and is from the More to Say Die set. I cut this one from Lilac cardstock and also backed it on Champagne foil. Both card have some clear dew drop accents and they are complete!

Hero Studio Hop - Ichabod's Study

Summer has really flown by and somehow we've already arrived to August! I am always excited for the autumn crafty season and the Hero Studio release today is the perfect jump start to Halloween.

Hero Arts will give away a $50 gift card, drawn from the comments left across the hop. Enter by Tuesday, August 5th at 11:59pm PT, and the winner will be announced on the Hero Arts blog the following week. Leave a comment on all stops for more chances to win!

I am really enjoying this kit the more I dive into it! The portraits and general vibe instantly made me think of the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland. I wanted to mimic the greens and purples that the cast members wear when they work at that ride.

Here is a picture of evvvvverything that you get with this kit. It is a LOT to work with.

I had fun dressing up the ornate frames. I used gold foil paper for the frame accent. You can see I also used the August Layering Stencil of the Month, called Sunnyside Manor. I used all layers of the stencil for the backdrop of each portrait. Then for the Plum card panel, I only used one layer to make it look like a simple wallpaper.

My second card to share features the August Stamp and Cut of the Month, called You Are Magic...

Isn't this so cool?! I paired the fortune teller's crystal ball with colorful smoke and fog using the Bonus Item (only available if you get The Whole Kit) this month, a stencil called Magic Mist. I blended the mist using a variety of inks in teals, greens, purples. I even added some lines of prismaglitter throughout the mist.

The stand of the crystal ball was stamped on Charcoal cardstock and then heat embossed with Clear Powder to give it a shiny look. I also added acetate to the opening of the globe to add to the effect.

Lastly, I heat embossed the 'Stay Spooky' with sparkle black powder and the various moths with black detail powder.

Thanks for stopping by! Make sure to leave comments along the hop for a chance to win a $50 Hero Arts gift certificate!

Down on the Boardwalk

I know I'm not the only one that was completely in love with this month's Concord and 9th release. The moment I could purchase that Boardwalk Stacks die I hit the buy now button and never looked back.

I'll be honest - this die set is very intimidating at first glance. There are SO many little dies. So I used one of my Color Cube cards to help me stay focused on my color scheme while I was cutting out the vast variety of pieces. It also made the process go by quicker because I wasn't stopping to pick out "the perfect cardstock color".

The cardstocks used today are all from C9.

To my pleasant surprise, Concord and 9th cardstocks were almost an exact match to my Color Cube card. My inspiration for both of these cards was the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. It's only 90 minutes away from me and is just such an iconic beach stop.

I first just die cut and built multiples of all the elements. I had no card design in mind (as usual). This Ferris wheel turned out so stinking cute that it needed to be the star of its own card. It is simply surrounded by the little merry-go-round, a popcorn cart, and the boardwalk railing.

The background is a cover plate by Kristina Werner for C9, but it was only available during last year's summer camp. The wheel is cut from white glitter paper and I also added some gold foil paper for the railing and center star.

This card was fun to put together because it's that true, classic, beach boardwalk theme. The bottom portion was heat embossed with Sand powder (a MUST have) and then I built the scene up from there. Complete with beach umbrellas, ice cream stand, ticket booth, toy booth, white wooden roller coaster (of course), and a little merry-go-round.

I want to go to there!

Happy Christmas in July

Happy Christmas in July! I'm sharing two cards that feature the Spellbinders July Small Die of the Month. It is such a great set that can actually make three different styles, but I only got around to two today.

I love this little penguin mug! All of the cardstock used is part of the new Spellbinders ColorWheel collection.

The penguin card is paired with the beautiful Layered Noel Foliage Stencil that I actually purchased many many months ago and just finally got around to using it. I used a variety of Distress Inks to blend out the stencil with blue-greens and pinks and reds.

The simple 'season's greetings' sentiment is from a Hero Arts set called Holiday Season Messages stamped with Nautical Ink. And lastly, the stencil panel was cut with my favorite Postage Infinity Dies.

I'm very drawn to this reindeer mug because ten years ago I owned a holiday mug that looked exactly like it! This card combines a big mix of products. The white panel was embossed with the Plaid Company embossing folder. I then stenciled the panel with the new Candy Cane Toss Up layering stencil, blended with Distress Inks.

I then die cut the candy cane panel with the Postage Stamp Frame from PTI. The pink panel is die cut with the Candy Cane Frame, also from PTI. The sweet sentiment is from the new Hero Arts A Little Merri-Mint set.

Have a great weekend and enjoy your Christmas in July!

Peppermint Skies

There are so many amazing new releases this month at Hero Arts. on Monday I shared 4 cards in this post showcasing the Crackin' Christmas collection and the Candy Cane Lane collection. But I saved this one for you all to share today!

This card features the more modern-looking stamp set from the Candy Cane Season collection called A Little Merri-Mint. I love the simple designs that are easy for layering your ink colors. There are also matching dies for all the sentiments!

This color palette is also one of my favorites for holiday cards. Gotta have that little touch of blue!

Just a quick share from me today. Have a great rest of the week!

4 Brand New Releases!

Happy Monday! Hero Arts has FOUR BRAND NEW COLLECTIONS that just dropped! We have a little bit of summer vibes and a little bit of holiday cheer to make your July a bit happier. If you're reading this before July 25th, then be sure to comment along the IG hop for a chance to win some prizes!

The first collection I'm sharing is the Crackin' Christmas sets!

My first card features the Big Mouth Nutcracker Die. It comes together surprisingly easily and the best part is that this die will cover your entire card! So there's nothing else you have to think about!

I used some of the beautiful new ColorWheel Cardstock from Spellbinders. You can see that it cuts like buttah, especially when using my Platinum Die Cutting Machine!

My next card is also from the Crackin Christmas collection, this time using the A Little Nuts Bundle.

I colored the stamped images with my Copic Markers, and used more traditional Christmas colors for this one. The Nutcracker is in a little frame that was die cut using the Wood Frame Infinity Dies.

There's one more holiday themed collection to share, called Candy Cane Season.

This card uses two sets: Candy Cane Swag Bundle and the Candy Cane Season fancy die.

My intention was to create a wreath with the swag stamps and the sentiment in the middle.

This card uses the same two sets as my last card. I tried to focus more on the lovely candy cane stamp, and again used more traditional Christmas colors here.

Thank you, as always, for stopping by! Some of my links are affiliates at no charge to you. Thank you for your support!
