Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #9 - THINK PINK

Can you believe it's February?! What a great way to celebrate the start of a short month... with Superbowl Sunday! Of course there's more to this month, one big thing is Valentine's Day! That's why this month's Mixed Media Monthly Challenge is... THINK PINK.

We challenge you to make a mixed media project that's all about PINK. I created a canvas full of hearts and full of pink...

Rather than a photo tutorial, this month I thought I'd make a VIDEO showing you exactly how I made my canvas! Hope you enjoy it and I'd love if you SUBSCRIBED to my channel while you're there :)

I used a lot of Gelatos and DCWV Corrugate paper and DCWV Foil Vellum for my hearts. The sentiment stamp is from Unity Stamp Co.

Thanks for stopping by to see my new PINK project. I'm excited to see what you all create this month! You have until February 28, 11:59PM est to link up at the MMMC gallery!

We have an AMAZING sponsor this month! The great Ellen Hutson LLC will be giving away a $25 gift certificate to our random lucky winner! This shop is a personal favorite of mine, I know you all will love shopping there, too!!

Love,
Rachel

Valentine Event Day 5 - Art Journal

Welcome back to Day 5, our FINAL day of our brand new blog event! We have the first ever "5 for 5" holiday event... 5 designers will bring you inspiration for 5 days in a row, for 5 big holidays throughout 2015! Each day we have a different theme, and today the theme is COLLAGE.
I have a PRIZE PACK to be won so check for that at the bottom of this post~!

It was time for a good ol' fashioned art journal page! I don't have a video for this one because my journal pages tend to take me a very long time. I do a little bit at a time and leave it alone for a bit. I do have a photo tutorial, though! yippee :)

First steps are basics... I created a COLLAGE (our theme!) using torn papers from an old Dear Lizzy pad. I adhered all the pieces with gel medium and let it dry. Then I coated the whole page with a thin layer of gesso and let that dry.

I wanted to do a teal/pink page so I painted large brush strokes up and down the page in a variety of blue shades and pink shades.

Now it's time for some stamps! I used some hearts from a couple Unity Stamp SMAK kits. I stamped them with my Twinkling H2O's in a teal and a pink. Then I applied gesso to the inside of the larger hearts.

Now to finish off the background I added rub-ons throughout the page...

Now I have to add my cupid! I wanted to incorporate a mini collage on the cupid...

I tore a lot of mini pieces of paper from the Studio Calico "Classic Calico" pad and adhered them all around the cupid with gel medium. Once it was completely dry, I intricately cut around the entire thing with my craft knife. Finally, I shaded the cupid with black and silver Gelatos.

I glued on my cupid, added an arrow rub on, and stamped the sentiment...

The sentiment reads "The best is yet to be" and is from the Unity January SMAK kit.

Now time for the close ups!

I hope you enjoyed my photo tutorial! I haven't left you completely video-less though... today I'm up on the Faber Castell Design Memory Craft blog with another Valentine project... and a video! So stop there and check it out!

PRIZE TIME!

I have one prize pack to give away to a lucky commenter! Leave a comment on all of my "5 for 5" posts and you'll be entered for a chance to win! One comment = one entry! 5 comments = 5 entries! Good luck!

Valentine Index Cards + VIDEO

Welcome back to Day 4 of our brand new blog event! We have the first ever "5 for 5" holiday event... 5 designers will bring you inspiration for 5 days in a row, for 5 big holidays throughout 2015! Each day we have a different theme, and today the theme is GLITTER. Some of the designers are offering prizes so leave your comments to be entered to win!

Index cards are my way of trying new techniques and just playing around, without having to commit to a full journal page or card. I have a rolodex full of these little things, so I thought it'd be fun to make some for this Valentine's event.

These two index cards use the exact same products and materials but turned out completely different. It was fun to see them transform in such opposite directions!

I used a lot of gorgeous new papers from DCWV that are available now at Joann's. They have new Premium Paper Packs which hold a collection of 5 sheets of very high quality paper, including glitter, vellum, embossed, and even laser cut! I also used the fabulous BLING SHEETS (!!!) they are like shiny crystals on adhesive paper. They're amazing!

Of course I needed to finish these off with some Faber Castell Design Memory Craft Glass Bead Glitter Gel! It IS a glitter theme, after all! I also have yet another PROCESS VIDEO! So you can watch how these two cards turned into two very different pieces!
